ReikiReiki is a Japanese technique which was created to help with reduce stress and assist in relaxation while at the same time promoting healing. Reiki is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through the body is what causes us to be alive. It is believed that if a persons “life force energy” is low, then they are more likely to be ill or feel stress while if it is high, a person is more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s wisdom or spiritual guidance” and Ki which is “life force energy”, so in essence Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”

Reiki treats the whole person including the body, emotions, mind and spirit in turn creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being. Reiki treatments are a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.

A typical Reiki session is usually 60 to 90 minutes long. A discussion will usually take place during your first session with your Reiki practitioner. They will describe the session to you, giving you an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues you are experiencing and ask what you are hoping to achieve from the session. During the actual session, the client will rest comfortably on a massage table on their back with their shoes removed. Reiki can also be be performed while sitting comfortably in a chair. Unlike massage therapy, during a Reiki session no articles of clothing are removed and it is suggested to wear loose, comfortable clothing. A Reiki session can be hands-on, where your practitioner will apply a light touch, or hands-off where their hands will be held slightly above your body.

The session will then proceed with the Reiki Practitioner moving through specific standard Reiki hand positions beginning at the person’s head or feet. A recipient of Reiki might feel a warming sensation or a tingling during the session or nothing at all but sheer relaxation. The session should be very pleasant, relaxing and invigorating.

Reiki has proven effective in helping virtually every known illness and always has a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
