According to the Geneva Centre for Autism in Ontario, one in 200 Canadian children are affected by Autism, an increase of 600 percent in the past 10 years–making Autism the most common childhood neurological illness in the country.

What is Autism?

Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders known as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD). The other pervasive developmental disorders are PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified), Asperger’s Syndrome, Rett Syndrome and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder. Many parents and professionals refer to this group as Autism Spectrum Disorders or ASD..

Treatments for Autism

There are three systems of the body which must be incorporated into the treatment regiment for Autism: the central nervous system, the digestive system and the immune system. Each treatment builds on the next, and since these three areas of the body are affected, then the three areas of the body must be addressed. At the MNHC Naturopathic & Medispa Clinic, Dr. Diana has developed personal and specialized programs designed to ease the symptoms of Autism. Along with the other practitioners Dr. Diana offers a variety of natural therapies including the following:

  • Anti-fungal treatments
  • Aromatherapy
The Autism Research Institute developed a natural therapy approach called biomedical protocol for Autism as a part of the Defeat Autism Now (DAN) program. A number of medical doctors and Naturopathic Autism experts participate in the DAN program. In fact, Dr. Diana is a participant of the DAN Program and will receive his certification in the coming months. Biomedical treatments commonly include:
  • GFCF plans
  • Nutritional supplements
  • Essential fatty acids
  • Melatonin
  • Sulfation
  • Thyroid supplements
  • Glutathione
  • Chelation Detoxification (Removal of metals from the body)
  • Immune system monitoring
  • Auditory integration therapy
