What is Stress?
Although stress is typically caused by external factors, these events themselves are not considered to be stressful. In actuality it is the way in which we interpret and react to events that makes them stressful. All people differ in the type of events they interpret as stressful and the way in which they react to such stress. For example, some people find public speaking stressful while others are relaxed during such activities.
Because stress can affect a variety of meridians, the MNHC Naturopathic & Medispa Clinic staff under the guidance and direction of Dr. Diana base our treatments on an individual assessment which will be carried out during your initial consultation.
Symptoms of Stress
There are several signs and symptoms that you may notice when you are experiencing stress. When you are under stress, you may experience one or more of the following:
- Aches and pains
- Back pain
- Difficulty concentrating
- Digestive symptoms
- Joint/muscle pain/tension
- Loss of confidence/low morale
- Over breathing/palpitations
- Sleep disorders
- Upset stomach
Research has proven that relaxation techniques help deal with stress and that these techniques are a vital part of coping with stress. Using these relaxation techniques daily will make a difference in dealing with stressful situations. Regularly practicing relaxation techniques will also have a calming effect on a persons mind will give the patient an increased amount of internal resources to deal with day to day stresses.
Reiki is an energetic method of treatment. It is effective in helping to release emotional stress and has a calming, re-energizing effect and will help strengthen your energy system (also known as your aura). It is long known that our emotions are stored in our aura and as long as a person experiences pleasant emotions they have a lower chance to develop stress. You will learn how to effectively change a negative emotion to a positive emotion very quickly as well as learn how to focus on the positive in any given situation where most people focus on the negative. You will also learn how to focus on solutions as opposed to problems. The end result is that you will find yourself seeing life less stressful and more enjoyable no matter what the conditions are in your life.
Since Stress Management is a recognized tool that falls under the category of physiotherapy according to the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario it qualifies for reimbursement under most extended health/benefit plans.
